The Nikon D60 is an upgraded version of D40 and D40x. Not much of an upgrade if you compare it with D40x. The D60 is more of a D40x without the x. We bought the D60 because we don't read camera reviews, we just thought the D60 is cool. We bought it from Mayers in Quiapo right after our wedding last May for P28,500 (they have dropped the price earlier this year to P26,000). The P28,500 is a body and lens kit already.
The D60 is really cool, but if you are planning to buy an entry level DSLR on a tight budget, its better you get the D40. If you think D60 has more pixels in it, well... you're not one of those photographers who publishes his work as billboards for EDSA, right?
The quality of images we have taken so far is classic (check them out at www.flickr.com/mojoandnuti). Sharp and easy. However, this image quality depends on your lens, not so much with the camera. Get the D40 and spend more of your hard-earned money on lenses.
However, with the D40 or D60, AF lenses do not auto focus with these cameras, they only go for AF-S. Therefore, older model lenses are usually not compatible with these cameras. If thats an issue buy D70, 80, or 90.
